CONDITIONS THAT ARE CONDUCIVE TO BOTH DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL
PEACE.
The City Commission of the City of Miramar adopted the attached Resolution No. 09-100
and requested that it be transmitted to all appropriate governmental representatives.

RESOLUTION NO. 09-100
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIRAMAR, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING U.S. HOUSE OF
REPRESENTATIVES BILL "H.R. 808" WHICH ESTABLISHES A
CABINET-LEVEL DEPARTMENT OF PEACE DEDICATED TO
PEACEMAKING AND THE STUDY OF CONDITIONS THAT ARE
CONDUCIVE TO BOTH DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL PEACE;
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TRANSMIT
CORRESPONDENCE CONTAINING THIS RESOLUTION TO ALL
APPROPRIATE GOVERNMENTAL REPRESENTATIVES; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Commission has been advised of H.R. 808, now pending in
the U.S. House of Representatives, which seeks to establish acabinet-level Department
of Peace in the executive branch of government dedicated to peacemaking and the
study of conditions that are conducive to both domestic and international peace; and
WHEREAS, the mission of the new Department will be to hold the cultivation of
peace as a strategic national policy objective; reduce and prevent violence in the United
States and internationally through peacebuilding and effective non-violent conflict
resolution; strengthen non-military means of peacemaking; work to create peace,
prevent violence, prevent armed conflict, use field-tested programs and promote best
practices in nonviolent dispute resolution; take a proactive, strategic approach in the
development of policies that promote national and international conflict prevention,
nonviolent intervention, mediation, peaceful resolution of conflict and structured
mediation of conflict; address matters both domestic and international in scope;

provide an institutional platform for the growing wealth of expertise in peacebuilding to
dramatically reduce the national and global epidemic of violence; support local
communities in finding, funding, replicating, and expanding programs to reduce and
prevent violence; invest in non-governmental organizations that have implemented
successful initiatives to reduce and prevent violence, both internationally and
domestically; and work with other government agencies to apply and practice the
science of peacebuilding in their respective fields of responsibilities; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission strongly supports the goals and mission of
H.R. 808 and deems it to be in the best interests of the citizens and residents of the City
to declare this support by way of this Resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF MIRAMAR, FLORIDA AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: That the foregoing "WHEREAS" clauses are ratified and confirrned
as being true and correct and are made a specific part of this Resolution.
Section 2: That the City Commission declares its strong support of the goals
and mission of H.R. 808 and authorizes the City Manager to provide correspondence
containing a copy of this Resolution to all appropriate govemmental representatives.
Section 3: That the appropriate City Officials are authorized to do all things
necessary and expedient in order to carry out the aims of this Resolution.

Section 4: That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.
