SUBJECT: Collins Park Protect Constructio chedule Update Report
The purpose of this LTC is to advise you of the recent activity and the current status of the
Collins Park project and to provide information concerning the construction schedule for the park
and the 2151 Street parking lot.
The last of the permits needed to begin construction of the project was received on March 24,
2009 and construction is now ready to commence. In consideration of the Bass Museum,
ArtBasel, the "'W"Hotel and other surrounding property owners and the general parking needs of
the community, the project will be constructed in two phases.
Phase 1 will be all work east of Collins Avenue (the 215' Street parking lot and the on-street
parking) and the restoration of the Rotunda structure. The construction duration of this phase is
expected to be approximately 3 to 4 months. Construction activity began on this phase on March
6, 2009. Full closure of the 21St Street parking lot and on-street parking east of Collins Avenue
between 2151 and 22nd SVeets will occur on May 4, 2009. The Phase 1 construction schedule is
intended to ensure that all work in Phase 1 is completed prior to the start of ArtBasel 2009.
Once Phase 1 is completed, general construction activity will be demobilized until after the
move-out of ArtBasel. Several specific activities are planned to continue up to the opening of
ArtBasel; undergrounding of ovefiead utility lines on 22n0 Street, the Children's feature nearthe
coral rock wall on The east side of the parking lot and possibly some ROW work on the west side
of Collins Avenue.
Immediately after ArtBasel, construction of Phase 2 (all work west of Collins Avenue) will begin.
Construction of Phase 2 is currently anticipated to take approximately 9 to 10 months to
complete. This schedule will ensure that all construction is completed for the entire project
before the opening of ArtBasel 2010.
The project construction sequencing and scheduling was reviewed with and agreed to by the
Bass Museum, Regional Library, Miami City Ballet, Collins Park Oversight Committee, Collins
Park Neighborhood Association, the "W"Hotel and representatives ofArtBasel. Every effortwill
be made to complete all construction on-time or ahead of schedule. If for whatever reason the
schedule should change, all parties will be kept advised.
