This commercial event is claimed to feature the largest display of pre-ow nee yachts anywhere in the world, and is sponsored by Florida Yacht Brokers Association and Y achtn~ Promotions, Inc. In its eighth year, this show is expected to draw many people to Miami Bead during the same period the International Boat Show is held at the Convention Center. The Brokerage Yacht Show is an in-water event, occupying a segment of the Indian Creek Watervray in the mid-40's blocks of Collins Avenue. Indeed, the City Commission has approved a revoca',le permit to enable this event to occupy the City's waterside lots on Indian Creek across from 'he municipal parking lot next to the Eden Roc Hotel ANALYSIS Notwithstanding the obvious support of the surrounding hoteliers and the Administration's sUPPJrt of this show as an important commercial activity which brings many people to our City, we hav,~ a serious concern with regard to installing banners for this event on Collins Avenue. The Collins Avenue corridor in the 40's is primarily residential, with the exception of several m~or hotels. It s character would be seriously compromised, even on a temporary basis, with 1he installation of banners for a commercial show -- said banners would in reality be nothing less than advertising signs for the show. DATE c. 'l6L ;)-:)JU- AGENDA ITEM By approving light pole banners for this commercial event, the City would be setting a precedent fer other commercial events to follow suit. As such, we do not believe these subject banners should b ~ approved. CONCLUSION The Administration has concluded that the City Commission should ~ the Resolution. ~~~ JGP;HMmJG/ct enc:
