Gonzalez, City Manager DATE: May 26, 2009 SUBJECT: FDOT Roadway Enhancement Project -Collins Avenue, 15tH Street to North of Lincoln Road The purpose of this Letter to the Commission (LTC) is to provide you with information on the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Roadway Enhancement Project on Collins Avenue from 15tH Street to north of Lincoln Road. The project work plan consists of upgrading pedestrian signs and signals, repaving and re-striping the roadway, reconstructing sidewalks and driveways at various locations, and American Disability Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps (see Attachment 1, FDOT Project Fact Sheet). The estimated cost of the project is $370,000. The construction work is scheduled to begin on May 27, 2009 and will be completed by September 24, 2009. Please note that bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances could impact this schedule. Intermittent north and southbound lane closures along Collins Avenue will occur during non-event days and weekends, Sunday through Saturday, during daytime hours (9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Please be advised that during these improvements, at least one lane will remain open and access to local residences, businesses and bus stops will be maintained at all times. These improvements will also require the restriction of on-street parking at various times and locations. Pedestrian access will be maintained on one side of the road at all times. FDOT is coordinating closely with the City as well as with local businesses and residences. FDOT, with the City's Community Resource Coordinator, has met individually with each business owner or manager to inform them of the project. FDOT has mailed the Project Fact Sheet to each impacted business owner along Collins Avenue, and has also agreed to notify each business before starting work in their respective areas.
