98-22940 RESORESOLUTION NO. 98-22940 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE STATE OF FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO SUPPORT AND CONTINUE THE OPERATION OF THE PREVENTION, EDUCATION AND TREATMENT (PET) CENTER AT 615 COLLINS AVENUE, MIAMI BEACH, WHICH PROVIDES NECESSARY HEALTH SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY. WHEREAS, the Prevention, Education and Treatment (PET) Center located at 6 15 Collins Avenue, Miami Beach, Florida provides health services to a significant segment of the Miami Beach community; and WHEREAS, the services of the PET Center include, among other things, treatment for HIV disease, tuberculosis (TB), and sexually transmitted diseases (STD), psychiatric counseling, anonymous testing for HIV, and childhood immunizations; and WHEREAS, the PET Center is the only Health Department satellite in Miami-Dade County where primary care HIV services are offered along with STD and TB services; and WHEREAS, the South Beach area has been heavily impacted by HIV; and WHEREAS, the services provided by the PET Center are necessary for the protection of the public health of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the State of Florida Department of Health and Miami-Dade County are hereby urged to support and continue to operate the PET Center at its current level of health services in the City of Miami Beach.
