A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, RETROACTIVELY AUTHORIZING
THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN APPLICATION TO THE STATE
OF FLORIDA CULTURAL INSTITUTIONS 1999 - 2000 GRANT
PROGRAM, FORA TOTAL OF $205,782 PER YEAR FOR THREE YEARS;
AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE GRANT, IF AWARDED;
AND APPROPRIATING THE FUNDS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE
TERMS OF THE GRANT.
WHEREAS, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs solicited
applications for the Cultural Institutions Program for the three year cycle starting with Fiscal Year
1999-2000; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this program is to supplement the financial support of cultural
organizations that have a sustained commitment to cultural excellence, and to recognize
organizations for superior cultural contributions that have regional or statewide impact; and
WHEREAS, completed applications must be submitted by September 1, 1998; and
WHEREAS, the Bass Museum has been recognized by the State of Florida as a major
cultural institution which makes the Bass eligible to apply for this grant funding, which requires no
matching funds; and
WHEREAS, these grant funds will help promote the expanded Bass Museum, stimulating
tourism and providing an important cultural destination in the City.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, retroactively authorizing the
City Manager to submit an application to the State of Florida Cultural Institutions 1999 - 2000 Grant
Program for a total of $205,782 per year for three years; authorizing the acceptance of the grant,
if awarded; and appropriating the funds in compliance with the terms of the grant.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt the Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
The State of Florida, Department of Sate, Division of Cultural Affairs solicited applications for the
Cultural Institutions Program for the 3-year cycle starting with fiscal year 1999-2000. The purpose
of this program is to supplement the financial support of cultural organizations that have a sustained
commitment to cultural excellence, and to recognize organizations for superior cultural contributions
that have regional or statewide impact.
ANALYSIS:
The City of Miami Beach Bass Museum has been recognized as a major cultural institution by the
State of Florida which makes the Bass eligible to apply for this grant funding which requires no

matching funds. The Bass Museum is currently receiving funds that were awarded during the
previous grant cycle. These grant funds will help promote the expanded Bass Museum, stimulating
tourism and providing an important cultural destination in the City.
CONCLUSION:
The Administration recommends the adoption of the attached Resolution, which retroactively
authorizes the City Manager to submit an application to the State of Florida Cultural Institutions
Grant in the amount of $205,782 per year for three years; authorizing the acceptance of the grant if
awarded; and appropriating the funds in compliance with the terms of the grant.
