ENHANCEMENT COMMITTEE
At the Commission meeting of May 13, 2009, via Ordinance No. 2009-3635, the seventeen
(17) member Gay Business Development Ad Hoc Committee was replaced by the fifteen
(15) member Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Business Enhancement
standing committee with the Mayor appointing three (3) members and each Commissioner
with two (2) appointments. Of the original seventeen (17) memberAd Hoc committee, there
were sixteen (16) active members and one (1) vacancy.
Of the sixteen (16) active members of the Ad Hoc Committee. and pursuant to City Code
Section 2-23 (Serving on more than one agency, board or committee), four members on the
Ad Hoc Committee were also serving on another standing committee and elected to
continue serving on their original standing committee. One (1) member elected not to
continue serving thereby leaving the total number of vacancies on the Gay, Lesbian.
Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Business Enhancement standing committee at four (4).
The members who have elected to continue serving on the committee are: Willis 'Chip"
Arndt, Thomas Barker, Nellie Barrios, Michael Guss, Billy Kemp, Babak Movahedi, CH
Ortuno, Chad Richter, Robin Schwartz, Daniel Spring, and Laura Veitia.
The Committee's terms have been staggered by the City Clerk's office with the Mayor having
three (3) direct appointments with one (1) terminating 12!2009 and two (2) terminating
1212010. Each City Commissioner has two (2) direct appointments with one (1) terminating
12!2009 and one (1) terminating 1212010.
Although appointments to this Committee are individual appointments, pursuant to the
enabling ordinance, the initial membership of the committee shall be comprised of those
current members of the Mayor's Gay Business Development Ad Hoc Committee and with
any additional members (as required to complete the total number of members of the
Committee) to be appointed at large by a majority vote of the City Commission.
An item will be placed on the July 15`" Commission Agenda should the City Commission
wish to~~make any appointments.
