ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION: Adopt the Resolution. BACKGROUND: The Festival of the Arts is an important on-going event which has evolved from a local street show to one of the largest and most prestigious art shows on the East Coast. Previously held on Collins Avenue in the stretch of Miami Beach known as the "Fabulous Fifties", the 30-acre North Shore Open Space Park has now become the new home of the festival. The 1999 Festival of the Arts will be held on February 6-7, 1998, and anticipates attracting over 175 artists and over 35,000 attendees. ANALYSIS: The Festival of the Arts was originally administered entirely by funds generated from area sponsors, artists and vendor fees. Following the relocation of this event to North Beach in 1995, additional funding for advertising and promotions, as well as a search for new area sponsors, became necessary. The event is still primarily funded by artist and vendor fees, sponsors and donations, as available. The 1999 Miami Dade County CultWal Affairs Council funding provides for advertising and promotions to support and encourage attendance to the 1999 Festival of the Arts. CONCLUSION: The Administration recommends approval of the attached resolution. SRl~SF/OM AGENDA ITEM C- l F DATE~
