SUBJECT: Splash into Summer Reading
The City of Miami Beach, in conjunction with the Miami-Dade Family Learning Partnership and
The Children's Trust, joined in the RIF (Reading is Fundamental) "Splash Into Summer Reading"
book ownership program to provide free, age-appropriate books to youth in grades PreK-5.
Join us as we hand out approximately 1,000 free books to our summer day camp participants
from North Shore Park Youth Center and Muss Park.
This combined event will be on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at North Shore Park Youth
Center. As part of the event, you are invited to read along with the recreation staff as we read
stories to the children. Children will be given animal cut-outs glued to Popsicle sticks and those
with the animal that matches the story will raise it in the air and mimic the animal sound.
This fun activity is intended to motivate and give kids an incentive to take time to read this
summer. It is recommended for children to read during their break, as it will boost their
comprehension levels, and help them become more successful in the upcoming school year.
