TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the Cify Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager ''-~
DATE: August 4, 2409
SUBJECT: ASE Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition
The purpose of this Letter is to inform the Mayor and Commission that the City of Miami Beach
FleeT Management Department recently earned the Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition as
prescribed by the National Institute For Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).
The National Institute for Automotive Excellence (ASE), headquartered in Leesburg, VA, was
founded in 1972 as anon-profit, independent organization dedicated to improving the quality
of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive
technicians. To be ASE certified, a technician must meet the two-year automotive hands on
experience qualification and pass a test. Technicians can elect to take up to eight specialized
exams in the area of Automobile/light Truck or Medium/Heavy Truck service and repoir. A
technician passing all eight exams qualifies for Master Technician status. According to ASE,
only one in three technicians pass exams.
The Blue Seal of Excellence Recognition is awarded to private business and public sector Fleet
maintenance departments with at least 75% of technicians ASEtertified. In addition, there
must be a certified Technician in each area of service offered.
Two of the City of Miami Beach Fleet Management Department technicians hold ASE Master
Technician certification. Collectively, the City's Fleet technicians hold Sb ASE certifications.
Please join me in congratulating the Fleet Management Department for this achievement.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me.
