Exhibit 7 /Revised Project Description
Organization: Miami Beach Film Society
Completely describe Project approved by the Grants Panel and in a separate narrative detail all revisions to
the Project based upon the City Commission approved award. Please be as specific as possible; name of
event, specific dates, venues, times, artists, etc. Use extra page if necessary.
Project description as approved by Grants Panel:
Planned for 2009-2010: MBC will continue to upgrade not only our facilities but our
programming, with more HD premieres in collaboration with Emerging Pictures. With
collaborations at a record high, including the March inclusion of a NEW Miami International
Film Festival sidebar, "Cutting the Edge", MBC is a center for festivals as well as in-house
programs. Our 2009-10 "Great Directors" series will feature Visconti, Hitchcock (for the
first time in HD!), as well as locals and visiting directors like Jose Luis Guerin from Spain,
and new series are in development such as "Green Screen", an environmental series.
"Silents Please!" (silent films with live accompaniment) will be expanded (with a "Silent
Film Brunch" being discussed with The Wolfsonian). Live performance by artists such as
Belaxis Buil will expand, allowing MBC to offer much more than the typical movie theatre. As
world visitors mention regularly, there is nothing quite like it anywhere!
Project description as revised (if applicable) based upon the City Commission approved award:
Changes to projects awarded under the Artistic Disciplines program must still adhere to the requirement that the
work is new or has never before been presented in Miami Beach.
Changes of this description above are: Our "Great Director" series has already included Hitchcock, due
to the availability of several of his films in high definition. Due to the nature of distribution strategy,
Hitchcock was moved up, but will be replaced by another director, such as Lars Von Trier for November
and Jacques Tati for December, because of the timed release of their new or restored films. Also "Gn:en
Screen" mentioned above is ahead of schedule also, already developing as "Cinema GREEN" in
collaboration with ECOMB, The Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach, and will be further developed
through the season.
However, the biggest change to our 2009-2010 season is great, exciting. news!
MBC is scheduled to move to the Miami Beach Historic City Hall in the summer of 2010!
Our expansion opportunity to move to City Hall has come up, so we plan to move in June, and have as
minimal down time as possible between our existing space and the new space. So our programming will
not be affected besides being dramatically increased starting after we move. Our first run films and other
programs will then have more screenings, with daytime hours utilized as well as evening, and the
development of added attractions during the day (such as the planned "Made in Miami Movie Tour", which
will originate in our new space and continue as a guided tour to famous and not so famous movie
locations around the beach, supplemented by digital screenings of clips from the films made at those
locations). Our neighbor will be The Wolfsonian, so the above mentioned collaboration w~h them will
likely include other aspects as well.
