LTC 312-2009 Meeting to discuss county sewer line replacement under government cutr~ 0 o .o -~-, K J m MIAMI BEACH ~ ~_' CT ~ OFFICE OF ThIE CITY MANAGER "f i G No. LTC#312-2aoq LETTER TO COMMISSIOf~ y. TU Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Commission FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager.\ ~ ~ DATE November 13, 2009 '~` suFS,=cT: MEETING TO DISCUSS COUNTY SEWER LINE REPLACEMENT UNDER GOVERNMENT CUT Miami Dade County Water and Sewer Department has scheduled a public meeting in Miami Beach on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at Miami Beach High School to discuss their project to replace a large sanitary sewer transmission line that runs from Miami Beach to Virginia Key. The sewer line runs under Government Cut and it has been represented that the replacement line is necessary in order to allow an anticipated Port dredging project to proceed. The County has sent letters advising of the meeting to a number of our residents. The City had requested that the County reschedule the public meeting so that it would be possible for the City and County to meet and to discuss the project, its impacts and how it affects our pending South Pointe Booster Pump Station. The County declined to reschedule the public meeting. In order io share what little information that the City has about the project and its possible impacts, the City has quickly scheduled a meeting with SOFNA representatives and those buildings which might be impacted by the project on Monday, November 16, 2009 at 5'00 p.m. at City Hall. Our intention is to bring the residents up to date on what we understand the project scope to be and to share our concerns that we intend to address with the County. One very significant potential development is that there may no longer be a need to build the Booster Pump Station. As the meeting was being set up, one of our residents sent a mass a-mail to residents advising them of the City's meeting on the subject. As a result, what was a small group may now turn into a much larger meeting. Staff will address whoever comes to the meeting; however it may be a little more difficult with a larger group if it materializes. As the meeting scope has just changed, we have not had an opportunity to advertise the meeting. Please call me or Assistant City Managers Jorge Gomez or Robert Middaugh if you have any questions or would like some additional information.
