OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 345-2009 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manager
DATE: December 9, 2009
SUBJECT: Colony Theatre 75th Anniversary
This Letter to Commission (LTC) is to advise you that Monday, January 25, 2010 marks the
75th anniversary of the original opening of the Colony Theatre. To celebrate this event, and
in belated recognition of the award-winning restoration of the theater that was completed in
January 2006, the city's Cultural Arts Council (CAC) is partnering with Global Spectrum,
Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL), Miami Beach Community Development
Corporation, the Miami Beach Chamber of Commerce and Segafredo to stage an
anniversary party on that night. The program is still in the planning stages, but will include
screened excerpts of the Colony's original opening night film, "Clive of India," and an MDPL
slideshow highlighting the theater's history, followed by champagne, snacks and other
refreshments courtesy of Segafredo.
The Colony Theatre is not only an important testament to our city's dedication to historic
preservation; it is also the cornerstone of South Florida's nonprofit performance community.
Please mark your calendars and plan to join me onstage at the Colony on January 25th at
6:30 p.m. to celebrate the past and future history of one. of our most important~culturai
assets.
Additional information will be provided once all final arrangements are made.
Please feel free to contact me if you should have ariy, questions.
