RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE
FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO
RESTRIPE THE TRAFFIC LANES IN THE MID-BEACH AREA
ON ALTON ROAD FROM MICHIGAN AVENUE TO 6312D
STREET IN ORDER TO PROVIDE SAFER TRAVEL LANES AND
CLEARANCE FOR PARKED VEHICLES.
WHEREAS, the Florida Deparhnent of Transportation has recently completed a
project in the City of Miami Beach ("City") which restriped travel lanes on Alton Road in
the Mid-beach area from Michigan Avenue to 63rd Street that provides for ten foot
roadways, with bike lanes in certain azeas; and
WHEREAS, travel lanes with a ten foot width are not sufficient in order to allow
bicyclists and persons pazking their vehicles on the roadway to safely co-exist with
vehiculaz traffic; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach deems it in the best interest of the health,
safety, and welfare of the City for the Florida Department of Transportation to restripe
the travel lanes in the Mid-beach azea on Alton Road in order to provide for wider travel
lanes.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND
CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, Florida that the Florida
Department of Transportation is strongly urged to restripe the travel lanes on Alton Road
in the Mid-beach area from Michigan Avenue to 63rd Street in order to provide for the
safer movement of traffic and the safety of bicyclists and those parking along Alton
Road.

Pursuant to a 3-0 vote of the Neighborhoods/Community Affairs Committee at its
meeting on January 19, 2010, the attached Resolution urging FDOT to re-stripe and make Alton
Road safer is submitted for consideration by the Mayor and City Commission.
