Maria Mayer Dear Mayor and Honorable City Commission:
1P Morgan
Josephine Pompanos The Transportation and Parking Committee met on June 7, 2010 and were
Marvin Silverman provided with tha below update on the Port of Miami Tunnel Project:
Scott Timrn
Seth Wasserman
• Notice to Proceed #2, issued on May 24th, 2010 (construction begins)
• Contractor began mobilizing on Watson Island (delivery of
materials/equipment on-site)
• Final sign and seal plans were submitted for Parrot Jungle trail -trail via
Watson Island to access Miami Children's Museum and Jungle fs{and
• Do not foresee any major activity on Causeway -first three {3) months work
will be done off on Frontage Road
• Environmental Research Permit for Watson Island was approved by FDEP
(Florida Department of Environmental Protection)
• All other permits needed are currently being worked on
• Doing a lot of work with City of Miami Beach, Mayor, other groups in
community, MBCC, Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club -reaching out to
community to coordinate/work together and find any possible ways to
minimize traffic impacts
• Frontage Road area is currently grated --hoping to complete in very near
future
• Will then work on what will be the "New McArthur" -new three {3) lanes,
taking place off of the three (3) existing lanes; no traffic interruptions; will
not be in road; nothing done to eastbound lane, except for mid-September
at 4:OOa, will open up :"New McArthur" (hoping for seamless transition)
• Location of "New McArthur": As you come off bridge, veer more to right
and loop back -gradual turn; idea is to relocate over to right 40ft and once
relocated, traffic goes seamlessly and work will begin in middle of median
• Intermittent lane closure -westbound lane between 9:30a & 3:30p for one
(1) week, to relocate utility work; will take place in about one (1) month
from now. One (1) lane will be closed - as you come in from Jungle Island
heading west, as you go up acceleration lane, part of lane will be closed as
they will be working near guardrail, part of lane will need to be closed
• Hired full-time tow truck (24hrs} to help keep traffic flowing on causeway
Sincerely,
Transportation and Parking Committee
