Parcher City Clerk City of Miami Beach •_ 1700 Convention Center Dr. - Miami, .Florida 33139 • Dear Mr: Parcher: Thank you for contacting me about the nation's policy concerning members of the gay - community serving in the military. ' In 1993, laws and regulations provided that gay and lesbian servicemembers were not to be asked about, nor allowed to discuss, their sexual preference. On March 3, 2010, Senator Lieberman introduced the Military Readiness Enhancement Act, S. 3065, in the Senate. S. 3065 would repeal the current laws and regulations concerning sexual preference in the Armed Services: On. October 10, 2009, the President stated that he will end Don't Ask Don't Tell; he ' reiterated that message during his State of the Union address. As a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I will. consider all arguments about changing this policy. I will keep your views in mind if this legislation is considered in the Senate.. If you have. ' any .additional concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me in the future. • Sincerely, - . ~.._;,,__ ~,,.4 _,... _ , P.S.
