A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING A DONATION OF TWO MATURE ROYAL PALMS FROM
P. ANTHONY RIDDER AND CONSTANCE M. RIDDER, TO BE PLANTED IN SUNSET
ISLAND II PARK, SAID DONATION HAVING AN ESTIMATED VALUE OF $10,000,
INCLUDING INSTALLATION.
WHEREAS, P. Anthony Ridder and Constance M. Ridder have offered to dOLate
two mature Royal Palms to the City, to be planted in Sunset Island II Park; ard
WHEREAS, the acceptance of this donation and planting of these Royal Pel.ln s
is endorsed by the Sunset Island II Homeowners Association; and
WHEREAS, the Royal Palms will be donated at no cost to the City; and
WHEREAS, the estimated value of said donation is $10,000, incluc.ir~
installation.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF TEE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby acce~t
the donation of two mature Royal Palms from P. Anthony Ridder and ConstancE ~.
Ridder to be planted in Sunset Island II Park, said donation having an estimc.te::l
value of $10,000, including installation.

ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the Resolution.
BACKGROUND:
On January 30, 1997, the Recreation, Culture and Parks Department Administraticn
received correspondence from P. Anthony Ridder and Constance M. Ridder, residents
of Sunset Island II, offering the donation of two mature Royal Palms to te
planted in Sunset Island II Park.
The Parks Maintenance Division is working cooperatively with the HomeOWI.eI s
Association to renovate the landscaping of Sunset Island II Park. Recently, tre
Association contracted with a landscape architect, at their own expense, to
develop a conceptual landscape plan for this location. This conceptual I,lc n
included the planting of various species of palms. The Parks Maintenance Divi~:ic n
will continue to work with the Association and other City Departments to devE:lcp
and implement the landscape plan.
ANALYSIS:
The donated Royal Palms are in excellent condition and meet standards approved
by the City and the Sunset Island Homeowners Association. The Royal Palms vri]l
significantly enhance the beauty and aesthetics of Sunset Island Park. Tl- e
estimated value of the donation is $10,000, including installation.
CONCLUSION:
The Administration recommends the acceptance of the donation of the two matm e
~al Palms donated by P. Anthony Ridder and Constance M. Ridder.

Dear Mr. Smith:
We offer the City of Miami Beach the gift of two roya: palm
tyee! to be replanted ill ~he city park on Sunset Island II. Tte
palms are approximately SS feet tall. We have contracted at o~r
expense t-!ith Tyler Trees Lu move the palms from our home at laC1
West 27th street to the park. It is our understanding th~t the City
will undertake the responsibili~y of replanting the palms,
including the pla.cement of any necessary supports to stabilize
them.
