A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, ACCEPTING THE DONATION OF
$12,500 FROM CRESCENT HEIGHTS, INC., A REAL ESTATE AND
MANAGEMENT CORPORATION, TO PURCHASE A SPECIALLY
TRAINED CANINE TO BE UTILIZED BY THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE
DEPARTMENT'S PATROL DIVISION CANINE SQUAD, FOR THE
DUAL PURPOSE OF EXPLOSIVE DEVICE DETECTION, AND
TRACKING AND APPREHENSION OF SUBJECTS INVOLVED IN
CRIMINAL ACTIVITY.
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department has identified a need to acquire a dual
purpose canine for explosive device detection, as well as the detection and apprehension of
subjects involved in criminal activity in the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, Crescent Heights, Inc., a Real Estate and Management Corporation, has
graciously agreed to donate $12,500 to purchase a canine for the Miami Beach Police
Department Patrol Division Canine Squad for explosive device detection, tracking and
apprehension of subject(s) involved in criminal activity; and
WHEREAS, law enforcement agencies with specially trained canines have proven to be
an effective means to deter crime, and the utilization of a dual purpose canine will assist the
Miami Beach Police Department in deterring criminal activities; and
WHEREAS, the canine will be purchased from Metro-Dade K9 Services, an approved
Miami Beach Police Department canine vendor, for a sum of $12,500.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, accepting the donation of $12,500
from Crescent Heights, Inc., a real estate and management corporation to purchase a specially
trained canine to be utilized by the Miami Beach Police Department, Patrol Division Canine
Squad, for the dual purpose of explosive device detection,. and tracking and apprehension of
subjects involved in criminal activity.

The Miami Beach Police Department has identified a need to purchase a canine with ability to be
trained to detect explosive devices, track and apprehend subjects involved in criminal activity.
Crescent Heights, Inc. a real estate and management corporation has graciously agreed to
donate $12,500 to the Miami Beach Police Department to purchase a canine for the Patrol
Division Canine Squad. The canine will be purchased from Metro-Dade K9 an approved City of
Miami Beach vendor. The vendor will be responsible for training the dog in basic obedience and
explosive detection prior to acceptance by the Miami Beach Police Department. To maintain the
skill levels of the handlers and the explosive detection ability of the canine, there will be on-going
training provided by the canine vendor aswell as in-service training with the Canine Squad. The
utilization of a dual purpose canine will assist the Miami Beach Police Department in deterring
criminal activities in the City of Miami Beach.
