SUBJECT: MBPD 2009 ANNUAL REPORT ' ' ~
-The purpose of this Letter to Commission (LTC) is to transmit the 2009 Miami Beach
Police Department (MBPD) Annual Report.
2009 was a banner year for the Miami Beach Police Departmeht (MBPD). Despite the
challenges of a continued national economic downturn, increased demands on our
workforce, and constraints on budgetary-resources, the MBPD continued to raise the bar
for the South Florida law enforcement community.
_ The accomplishments highlighted in the annual report reflect a commitment to
excellence by meeting this City's high expectations and adhering to the department's
unwavering philosophy of professionalism, accountability, and transparency, as
evidenced by the successful CALEA and CFA reaccreditations including a Flagship
designation. -The Miami Beach Police Department continues to provide superior public
safety services to its residents and .approximately seven million visitors annually.

as welt as several volatile demonstrations.
It should be noted that the exemplary work done by MBPD personnel has also been.'
. recognized through a wide variety of local, national, and international law enforcement
organizations. This included MBPD Officers receiving the Miami-Dade Association of
