RESOLUTION NO. 2001-24644
A RESOLUTION OF THE MA YORAND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, FOLLOWING A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED USES OF LOCAL LAW
ENFORCEMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS ON OCTOBER 17, 2001; APPROVING AND
AUTHORIZING THE PROPOSED USES OF SAID LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT BLOCK
GRANT FUNDS.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach has been awarded grant funds from the United States
Department of Justice under the "Local Law Enforcement Block Grant" Program for 2002; and
WHEREAS, the total estimated funds for this Program are $426,147, of which $383,532 will be
funded by the United States Department of Justice, and the remaining $42,615 will be funded by the City;
and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission approved the application and proposed uses of the
Block Grant funds at its regular meeting of June 27, 2001, under Resolution No. 2001-24488; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to fund special overtime projects such as gang related
enforcement; underage alcohol enforcement; selective traffic enforcement programs at locations that have
had a high incidence of traffic accidents and injuries; unexpected major special events; and various crime
prevention initiatives; and
WHEREAS, this is the sixth year of funding under the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, and
the proposed use of these funds, has the approval of the Administration, and was also endorsed by the Dade-
Miami Criminal Justice Council at its regular meeting on July 21, 2000; and
WHEREAS, one of the requirements of the Grant is that the City hold a public hearing for the
purpose of providing an opportunity for members of the public to discuss and/or comment upon the proposed
uses of the funds; said public hearing was duly held on October 17, 200 I.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission,
following a duly noticed public hearing, on October 17, 200 I, herein approve and authorize the proposed
uses of the Local Law Enforqement Block Grant Funds.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 17 th day of October, 200 I.

Commission of the City of-Miami Beach on Wednesday, October 17, 2001,
10:30 a.m., in the Commission Chambers, 3rd'Floor, City Hall, 1700 Convention
Center Drive, Miami Beach, Florida. This public hearing is to beheld for the
purpose of providing an opportunity for members 01 the public to discuss and/or

Adopt the Resolution.
ANALYSIS
The City of Miami Beach was awarded grant funds from the United States Department of Justice

this project are $426,147, of which $383,532 will be funded by the United States Department of
Justice and the remaining $42,615 will be funded by the City.
The Mayor and City Commission approved the application and proposed uses of the Block Grant
funds at its regular meeting of June 27, 2001 under Resolution No. 2001-24488.

funds. The Public Hearing will be held at 10:30AM on October 17, 2001.
This is the sixth year of funding under the Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. The proposed
use of these funds was endorsed by the Dade-Miami Criminal Justice Council, the designated
Advisory Board for the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program, at its regular meeting on July
20, 2001.
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution and authorize and
approve the proposed uses of the Law Enforcement Block Grant Funds.
