2011-27705 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -27705 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA URGING THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION, AS THE PROJECT MANAGER FOR THE PORT OF MIAMI TUNNEL PROJECT, TO DENY ANY FUNDING REQUESTS FOR THE PORT OF MIAMI TUNNEL PROJECT THAT WOULD AFFECT THE PLANNED EXPANSION OF THE 1 -395 ROADWAY RELATIVE TO THE TUNNEL PROJECT AND ANY OTHER PROJECTS THAT MAY AFFECT FUNDING AVAILABILITY FOR CITY OF MIAMI BEACH PROJECTS. WHEREAS, Miami Access Tunnel ( "MAT ") is expected to begin excavation and boring work on the $1 billion Port of Miami Tunnel Project in October, 2011; and WHEREAS, MAT has recently requested emergency reserve funds to cover the additional cost of limestone grouting beneath Biscayne Bay where the tunnel will be built; and WHEREAS, the additional funds, requested by MAT upon the eve of the project start date, should be denied if such request will impact the planned expansion of the 1 -395 roadway relative to the Tunnel Project and any other projects that may affect funding availability for City of Miami Beach Projects. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Florida Department of Transportation is hereby urged to deny any funding requests for the Port of Miami Tunnel Project that would impact the planned expansion of the 1 -395 roadway relative to the Tunnel Project and any other projects that may affect funding availability for City of Miami Beach Projects.
