This Letter to Commission is intended to provide information regarding the upcoming Household
Hazardous Waste Drop -off Event
The Public Works Environmental Resource Management and Sanitation Divisions are hosting a free
hazardous waste drop off event for residents on Sunday, August 7, 2011 between 8:00 a.m. and
3:00 p.m. Residents can drop off any household chemicals, electronics, or hazardous waste at the
parking lot located on 40 Street & Chase Avenue.
Leftover household products that contain corrosive, toxic, ignitable, or reactive ingredients are
considered to be "household hazardous waste ". Examples of such products include paints,
cleaners, motor oil, propane, pool chemicals, batteries, fertilizers and pesticides. These products
contain hazardous ingredients that require special care when disposed of in order to protect human
health and the quality of environment. Improper disposal of household hazardous wastes, such as
pouring these substances down the sink drain, on the ground, into storm drains, or putting them out
with the trash, can pollute the environment and impact our soil and water quality.
