OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 227 -2011 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Commission
FROM: Jorge M. Gonzalez, City Manage
DATE: September 7, 2011
SUBJECT Teen Club Family Night Dinner
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to invite you to attend and participate in the upcoming
"Family Night" dinner hosted by the City of Miami Beach Teen Club. The event will be held on
Friday, September 16, 2011 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the 21 Street Recreation Center -2100
Washington Ave., home of the Teen Club.
"Family Day ", a national initiative, is the model being used by the Teen Club to have parents and
teens pledge to commit to eating as a family three to four times a week. By being a part of "Family
Day ", we hope to inspire families to commit to this important tradition, as well as to give children
and youth more quality time with the number one influence in their lives - mom and dad.
The dinner will give parents an opportunity to sit down and eat with their teen children while they
enjoy a night of entertainment, guest speakers, skits, music and salsa dancing. The Miami Beach
Coalition will be providing food to the expected attendance of about 100 families.
Many organizations have joined this movement, such as the Miami Heat, Univision 23, Project
Bridge, Channel 4 and the United Way. "Family Night" is one of many free events offered
throughout the year for Teens and their families.
For morL formation, please contact Kevin Smith or William Priegues, Teen Club Supervisor. .
