RESOLUTION NO. 2011 -1
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH POLICE CITIZEN
RELATONS COMMITTEE STRONGLY RECOMMENDING THE SELECTION
OF ASSISTANT CHIEF RAYMOND MARTINEZ TO BE THE NEXT CHIEF OF
THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, with the impending retirement of Chief Carlos Noriega, a national
recruitment search for the next Police Chief is well underway; and
WHEREAS, during the interim period until a new Chief is selected, Assistant Chief
Raymond Martinez is leading the Miami Beach Police Department as its highest ranking
officer; and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Raymond Martinez is a thirty -two year veteran of the
law enforcement profession and veteran of the United States Marine Corps, possessing
a Masters Degree in Public Administration from FIU and a Bachelors degree from Barry
University; and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Raymond Martinez has already demonstrated his
ability to lead the Miami Beach Police Department in a new direction with his
establishment of a new Patrol Division Sector Plan intending to foster long term
organizational effectiveness and accountability, focusing on two fundamental goals — to
continue to lower crime rates and to enhance Police- Community partnerships;
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is a unique metropolitan area with a
multitude of special events and busy seasonal periods requiring strong leadership with
extensive expertise in managing Miami Beach's specific challenges and issues;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE
CITIZENS RELATIONS COMMITTEE TO RECOMMEND TO THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, TO SELECT ASSISTANT
CHIEF RAYMOND MARTINEZ AS THE NEXT CHIEF OF POLICE FOR THE MIAMI
BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT '
