SUBJECT: Historic Preservation Board Resolution'- Venetian Causeway >
Attached, please find a copy of a resolution pertaining to the Venetian Causeway, which was
adopted by the Historic Preservation Board at their November 8, 2011 meeting. The Board is
urging the City Commission to initiate a dialogue with the appropriate State and County
Agencies, in order to address the following:
1. Enforce the current weight limits on the Venetian Causeway immediately;
2. Transmit a clear message that restoration or historic reconstruction are the only
viable options for the repair or replacement of the Venetian Causeway bridges.
The Administration recommends that the Commission rovide an appropriate olic

consideration:

RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Historic Preservation Board is charged by Ordinance as
- serving in an advisory capacity to the City Commission and other City Boards on issues affecting the
City's architecture, design, historic districts and structures, and historic roadways; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Board strongly supports the efforts of the City to
promote and enhance its unique social and architectural history through the preservation of
significant roadway features throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, the Historic Preservation Board strongly supports and encourages the efforts of
the City to maintain, preserve and protect its significant and historic roadways as valuable historical,
educational and visual resources for its, residents and visitors; and `
WHEREAS, the Venetian Causeway Historic Site (HPS -4) was.designated by.the Miami
Beach City Commission on April 5, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the Venetian Causeway: is defined by low scale, historic_ bridges, the scale,
- character and design of which contribute to the identity of the Venetian Islands.
THEREFORE, is hereby resolved that the Historic Preservation Board.urges;the City Commission
of.the City of Miami Beach to initiateā¢a dialogue with the appropriate State and County Agencies, in
order.to address the following:
1. Enforce the. current weight limits - immediately;
2. Transmit a clear message that restoration or historic reconstruction are the only viable options for
the repair or replacement of the Venetian Causeway bridges.
