SUBJECT: PARKS & RECREATIONAL FACILITIES ADVISORY BOARD MOTIONS
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to transmit to you the following three (3)
motions approved by the Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board at their
February 1, 2012 meeting:
1. Parking on the swale on the Par 3 Golf Course.
2. The need for a fence enclosing the new play field at the Scott Rakow
Youth Center.
3. The Board voted against creating a new Tennis Advisory Board
1) The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board recognizes the need for
additional parking due to the high demands of usage at the Scott Rakow Youth Center.
MOTION: The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board supports the
efforts and recommendations of the SRYC Advisory Board and asks the
Commission to approve the necessary modifications to the Par 3 design to
accommodate parking.
Members Present: Amy Rabin, Meryl Wolfson, Harriet Halpryn, Rebecca Boyce,
Leslie Graff and Jonathan Groff.

2) The Board recognizes that dogs are constantly being walked or running loose on the
new play field, and a permanent fence would keep the area clean and safe for the
children that attend the Scott Rakow Youth Center.
MOTION: The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board supports the
recommendation of the SRYC Advisory Board requesting the play area be fenced
in light of safety and all issues.

Leslie Graff and Jonathan Groff.

Parks Advisory Committee motions
3) The Board recognizes that tennis is a growing program within the City of Miami
Beach Parks and Recreation Department, however feel that the Parks and
Recreational Facilities Advisory Board is capable to serve the community as a whole,
including the needs and concerns of the Tennis community.
MOTION: The Parks and Recreational Facilities Advisory Board believe we are
representative of the diverse community with knowledge of the overall needs and
priorities within the Parks and Recreation system, including funding needs. As a
Board, we have been open to hear and respond to the needs of the community
within our best judgment for the community as a whole. We believe we are well
qualified and capable to serve as an Advisory capacity for tennis issues and we
are open and welcome to hearing members of the tennis community come before
us, should they have any questions or concerns. Accordingly, we do not believe
that it is in the City's best interest or necessary to form a separate Tennis Board.
