' MIAMI -BEACH; FLORIDA, a;municipal corporation having its principal office at 1700
Convention:Center Drive;`-Miami Beach, Florida, 33139 (City), and FRIENDS OF THE
BASS MUSEUM, INC., a Florida corporation, whose address is 2121 Park Avenue,
Miami.Beach, Florida, 33139 (hereinafter referred to as Consultant).
RECITALS
WHEREAS, on .September 20, 2010, the Mayor and City Commission approved
Resolution No. 2010-27504, authorizing the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a
Professional Services Agreement with Consultant to expand its "IDEA @theBass"
education program to include every 4 1 and 5'h-grade classroom in Miami Beach for the
Fiscal Year 2010/2011, in the amount of$50,000 (the Agreement); and
WHEREAS, the City has the option, at its sole discretion, to extend said
Agreement for two (2) additional years, contingent upon funding availability; and
WHEREAS, on September 27, 2011, the Mayor and City Commission approved
the City's Fiscal Year 2011/2012 Budget, which included funding available to extend and
expand arts integration . services and programming of said Agreement for one (1)
additional year.
NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual premises, covenants and
agreements herein contained, and other good and valuable consideration, in receipt and
adequacy of which are hereby acknowledged and intending to be legally bound, the City
and Consultant hereby amend the Agreement as follows:
1. The City hereby exercises the first renewal term under the Agreement,
which shall commence on October 1, 2011, and shall end on
September 30, 2012 (the First Renewal Term). Except as amended
herein, all terms and conditions of the Agreement shall apply to the First
Renewal Term.
2. Consultant shall complete the Scope of Work (Services), attached and
incorporated as Exhibit "A" hereto. Said Scope of Work shall be
completed by no later than September 30, 2012.
3. Consultant shall be compensated by the City for the services to be
provided and satisfactorily performed, as set forth in Exhibit "A", during
the First Renewal Term, for a.fee not to exceed fifty thousand dollars
($50;000)-jncl-usive-of-Reim bu rsable-E-x-pen ses-and-any-other--c-0nsultants
necessary to complete the scope of work described in Exhibit "A". The
aforementioned fee shall be paid in accordance with Section 4 of the
Agreement.

Fourth Quarter(July 1-Sept 30 2011)
•. _rJulyand;August'of 2011-The museum hired Tina Arenas, a teacher at Biscayne
Elementary who developed language arts lesson plans for 41h grade, and Michelle
Khatmor of Feinberg-Fisher Elementary who adapted lesson plans for 41h and 5`h grades,
developed by the museum in the previous year. This is part of a new strategy to hire
teachers from partner schools to develop curriculum for us. In addition,teams of
teachers from each partner school.will be encouraged to take professional development
classes to work on customizing lesson plans for their individual scope and sequence of
teaching.
• . September 24, 2011- Hosted Professional Development workshop for 4`h grade
language arts teachers. Tina Arenas, Lourdes Fuller, and Dr. Adrienne von Lates were
trainers. Ms. Arenas brought a team of teachers from Biscayne elementary. Invitations
to participate also went out to all 4`h grade teachers at the partner schools. The group
reviewed and tested the four lesson plans below:
1) Figurative Language: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, onomatopoeia. (LA.4.3.3.3 Creating
precision and interest by expressing ideas vividly through varied language techniques (e.g.,
imagery, simile, metaphor, sensory language) and modifying word choices using resources and
reference materials (e.g. dictionary). Key work of Art, Sylvie Fleury,Skin Crime (Crushed Fiat Car)
from Vanishing Points Exhibition.
.2)Grabbers/Lead sentences (LA.4.3.2.3 Creating interesting leads through the use of
quotations, questions, or descriptions) Key Work of art: Egyptian Mummy, Bass Permanent
collection.
3)Narrative Story Structure(beginning, middle,end) (LA.4.3.2.2 Organizing information into a
logical sequence and combining or deleting sentences to enhance clarity. Key work of Art:Jimmy
Donegan, Dingo Dreaming,from Vanishing Points Exhibition.
4)_Point of view(First Person) LA.4.3.3.1 Evaluating the draft for development of ideas and
-content, logical organization,voice (e.g.,formal or informal), point of view,word choice, and
sentence variation Key work of art: Tournament Tapestry, 16th century Belgium, Bass

First Quarter of 2011-2012 Fiscal year(Oct.7-Dec. 31, 2011)
—Ortab T-2S2-01-1=Professional Development workshop-offered-fur-art-teachers-wfr
work with 4"'and 5`h grades, all beach school art teachers in attendance. They got kits
with 10 lesson plans to adapt for their grades and a deadline of January 30 2012 to
implement the lessons in their classrooms. Feature lesson Plans: Inspiring Creativity
Using "Key Words": Connecting Materials with Meaning. This workshop included a
: r-visitcto the Sagarriore Hotel on Collins Ave. to study the contemporary art on display.
c.Teachers met with Cricket Taplin, the art collection's curator and chose works of art to
develop lesson plans for their curriculum.
-_ • 2.hour Inventive Art classes offered one Sunday afternoon a month in the Creativity
!_Center. —more intense art study with a certified art teacher, using design thinking
methodology, class is:limited to 30,with scholarships given to students from partner
schools in Miami Beach.
• Free Field Trips offered to each partner school.
• Working with teachers in the partner schools, Dr.von Lates is beginning to design at
least 6 new lesson plans for 4th and 5th grade teachers in the coming year, cross-
curricular with an international education focus. This includes the design and printing of
new lesson plan kits, including posters, post cards and CD-ROM support slides for 1.200
students.
Second Quarter (Jan 1- March 31, 2011)
• January 28- professional Development workshop for 4th and 5th grade language arts
teachers-testing of the new lesson plans
• February 11- Professional development for art teachers covering 45h and 5th grades,
testing new lesson plans..
• Classroom visits by Dr. von Lates to monitor plans, evaluate the program and measure the
process

• 2 hour Inventive Art classes offered one Sunday afternoon a month in the Creativity Center.
Third Quarter(April 1-June 30, 2011)
o April 2012 Exhibition of artwork and writing projects created at partner schools based
on the IDEA @thebass curriculum. This will take place in the Creativity Center at the
museum.

• 2 hour Inventive Art classes offered one Sunday afternoon a month in the Creativity
Center.

• June.-August =We'are hiring at least 3 more teachers from Miami Beach schools to
spend at_least 40 hours working with us to design lesson plans appropriate for 4`h and
_ 5`h grade language arts, social studies, math and science.
• IDEA @the Bass 10-week all-day summer camp. At least 15 students per week will get
scholarships, with priority given to 4`h and 5`h grade students enrolled at Beach partner
schools. Eligibility will be based on enrollment in the Federal Free or Reduced Lunch
program.
• September- Professional development for 4`h and 5`h grade language arts and social
studies teachers
• October- Professional development for teams of art teachers, math and science
teachers. Dealing with 4`h and 5`h grade curriculum
