SUBJECT: Upcoming Filming in Miami Beach
The purpose of this letter is to inform you about several large concurrent filming uses in
Miami Beach over the next few weeks.
Burn Notice — The sixth season finale of this successful series will feature a coordinated
action sequence at the Miami Heart Institute on North Meridian between 47 Street and
48 Street. Filming will take place Monday and Tuesday, September 24 and 25, from -
7am to 7pm, but with additional hours before and after for preparation, load -in and load -
out. The scenes include simulated gunfire, a motorcycle chase through the building and
along the back wall by the waterway, as well as a stunt involving the motorcycle jumping
through a staged plate of glass. For these uses, off -duty police will close Meridian
between 47 Street and 47 Court, rerouting traffic around this area. The Miami -Dade Bus
stop will be rerouted. Miami Beach Police and Fire will be on hand to assure public
safety and assist with these elements. The production has obtained consent from the
area residents and notified residents within 500 feet. The production is aware of Yom
Kippur beginning at sundown Tuesday and will not block the road or have any impactful
filming after 6pm.
Magic City The Miami Beach series returns for its second series with several
locations.
• On Tuesday, September 25, after filming in Miami, the production will move
smaller elements (not large trucks) to the International Inn on Normandy Drive
and Bay Dr. The scene takes place in the parking lot at night and will film from
approximately 7pm to 3am. The production is, again, well aware of this being
Yom Kippur and have obtained consent approval from all affected and area
residents, working with them to retain access and parking. The scene includes
simulated gunfire, but given the holiday and late hour, the production is using a
method that shows the flash without creating the sound.
• On Wednesday, September 26, the production films entirely within the Deauville
Hotel, which is the ballroom and pool stand -in for the fictional Miramar Playa in
the series. They will continue to use the lot to the north of the property for
parking, as per the arrangement they made, and keep all noise or exhaust
emitting vehicles on the south side, away from the condominium to the north,
whose management has given its consent.
• On Thursday, September 27, the production will film at a residence at 4839
Pinetree Drive, which is a recurring location on the show as the home of the
character Ben Diamond. The timeframe of this use is 2pm to 4am and includes a.
cocktail party scene with many extras. The production has worked with this
neighborhood for consent. The production will utilize open residential lots in the
area for most parking and will also utilize the lots and meters around the Miami
Heart Institute as their base camp to minimize the impacts on Pinetree Drive.
The production will use the lane abutting the residents and have police hold
northbound traffic on the easternmost lane only intermittently when loading large
vehicles in. No traffic will be interrupted during afternoon rush hours (4 —
6:30pm). The production will need to do some preparation work for this location,"
beginning Wednesday the September 25.
• On Monday, October 1, the production will film at a residence at 3440 Royal
Palm Avenue from 7am until 12am. The production is working to obtain consent
from the entire neighborhood, as they did when filming here last season, and will
close the road to local access only. The production has coordinated with CIP to
ensure the ongoing roadway and sewer project in the area will not overlap with
the filming location. The Miami Heart institute area will once again serve as the
base camp.
Iron Man 3 — We are-thrilled to host this major international action franchise, featuring
stars Robert Downey, Jr., Gwenyth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce and Sir Ben
Kingsley.
• The majority of the Miami Beach portion of this film will take place inside a
residence at 4821 Pinetree Drive. The filming schedule for this location will be
October 3 -6 and 8 -9 during daytime hours. Preparation for this location is
extensive and will begin September 24, with final move out October 11. During
preparation and filming, the production will have police close the easternmost
lane of Pinetree Drive from 47 to 49 Streets. The closures will not be in effect
during afternoon rush hours (4 — 6:30pm) or on Yom Kippur. The production has
obtained consent from the area and specifically the properties next to this lane
closure. The production will use open residential lots for other large vehicle
parking and also use the Miami Heart Institute area lots and meters for base
camp parking, including a small road closure with a simple reroute that will not
affect resident access. This community has given consent and Will be further
notified about this use as well.
• The other location in Miami Beach will be inside the Miami Beach Resort at 4833
Collins Avenue. The filming here scheduled for October 10 -11 during daylight
hours. In addition to retaining the base camp area at Miami Heart Institute, the
production will use a portion of the 46 Street parking lot (2 full bays) plus some of
the sand area of Indian Beach Park for their base camp and production vehicle
needs. The production will have signage to ensure the restrooms, concession
and tot lot are open and accessible to the public at all times. Immediate
requirement vehicles will utilize a lane closure on Collins Avenue south of the
property, between the Mimosa and Blue and Green Diamond Condominiums,
with their consent and an FDOT permit.
This is an unprecedented concurrent period of major production in Miami Beach that
occurred due to production schedule requirements and unforeseen delays. If members
of the Commission are interested in visiting these locations_ or the stages created outside
of.the City, please contact Graham Winick in the Office of Film and Print and he will
make every attempt to arrange such a visit.
