SUBJECT: Prior Year After School, 2012 Summer Camp and Current After School Enrollment Overview k .
This Letter to Commission is provided to share with you information regarding our after school program
for the last school year and the results of our recent summer camp program.
During the 2011 -2012 school year, our After School Program, which operates Monday to Friday, from 2 -6
pm, had an average of 1,080 participants enrolled quarterly. Our After School children receive homework
assistance, partake in physical fitness and various games to keep healthy and fit and also participate in
many other enrichment and social activities. The children are provided with free transportation from
Biscayne, Treasure Island, South Pointe, Fienberg Fisher and North Beach Elementary Schools, along
with Nautilus Middle School. The City provided .84% of the quarterly participants (905) with full, partial
scholarships or sibling discounts. Currently we have 1,007 participants enrolled in our 2012 Fall After
School Program.
This summer, our camps serviced 2,561 campers up from the previous summer where we serviced 2,538
participants. Among the many •activities, campers enjoyed swimming, ice - skating, and of course their
yearly participation in the Playground Revue. Of these participants, 1,440 were day campers, 74% of
which (1,058) received full or partial scholarships. The other 1,121 children registered for one or more of
our 22 different specialty camps offered, including Ice Skating, Dance, Fine Arts & Acrylics, Beach Bum,
Kayak, Aquatic Life /Nature, Fishing, Tennis and all sports, just to name a few.
A detailed summary report on yearly comparison's for After School and Summer Camps is attached.
