with one of the MCC choruses and be an integral part of the afternoon. The songs performed by Playing
the Game of Life will be unique to the children participating. They will sing with and for each other. This
project helps further the MCC vision of"A community where every child can experience the joy of
singing."This initiative will help us make closer contact with the Miami Beach community and hopefully
leave a residue that will sustain and enhance our future relationships there. All Together Now is geared
primarily toward families with school-age children.
The MCC community service project All Together Now is the MCC presentation of free community sing-
alongs. It was started in October 1997 as a response to a call by MENC: The National Association for
Music Education to"Get America Singing... Again." Noted song leader Alice Parker bemoans the lack of
community singing in the country. This project of the MCC is presented in three geographically diverse
locations in Miami-Dade County—Homestead, Miami Beach and Little Havana. Its two main objectives
are to(1) Promote community singing by school age children and adults all across Miami-Dade County
and(2) Promote the preservation of songs that reflect our multi-cultural heritage. Music Director Timothy
A.Sharp leads the sing-along.A chorus from the MCC sings on the program and an area school is invited
to make a presentation as well.In 2012,the South Pointe Elementary School Chorus with their Music
Teacher Michael Sinisgali appeared at the MCC Miami Beach sing-along. Free family sing-alongs titled
Sing Miami have also been presented for the past three seasons at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the
Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County. Master Song Leader Nick Page and MCC Music Director
Timothy A. Sharp have led the singing. Special guest have included the Delou Africa Dance Ensemble,a
group that has also appeared on Miami Beach with the MCC.
On a Sunday in April of 2013,the MCC will present its most ambitious project ever.At 5:OOPM at New
World Center,MCC will give the world premier performance of music commissioned by the organization
from Nestor Torres and Jim Papoulis through New Works for Children's Voices. These artists were
chosen to give life to the MCC vision of creating music for youth that challenges and inspires them as
practicing artists. The contemporary works will breathe life into the audience as they view the energy of
the children of the MCC matched with the creations of world-class artists. The works presented will
feature a cappella singing, chamber orchestra and percussion. It will also display a multimedia offering
that will make use of the varied technical offerings of the New World Center. Both composers will work
with the children throughout the creative process. They will also be present for the performance. As an
added bonus they will also both be playing with the ensemble. The target audience for this presentation is
intergenerational. The youthful energy of the children and the appeal of the music chosen for this event
will make us all feel young.
New Works for Children's Voices is the MCC commission project. Each season composers are selected
to write/arrange new works for the MCC.Composers who have written for the choir include David
Brunner, Kevin Wayne Bumpers,Rene Clausen,Oscar Escalada,Sydney Guillaume,Stephen Hatfield,
Robert Heath,Derrick James,Lee Kesselman,Greg Knauf,Edwin McLean,Francisco J.Nunez,Nick
Page,Gregg Smith,David Walker and the award-winning composer Eric Whitacre. Boosey & Hawkes,
Inc.and Mark Foster publishing companies have published works commissioned by the MCC.The 2006
