LTC 038-2013 Flamingo Pool Closure for Repairs MIAMB LETTER TO COMMISSION
4/038 -2013
TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Members of the City Co mission
FROM: Kathie G. Brooks, Interim City Manager
DATE: February 7, 2013
SUBJECT: Flamingo Pool Closure for Repairs
This Letter to Commission is to advise you of the upcoming closure of the Flamingo Pool 8 lane lap
pool for repairs.
The new Flamingo Park Pool opened in July 2002. The pool complex consists of an 8 -lane lap pool, a
child interactive water playground along with a concession stand, restroom and locker room facilities.
The preparation for the pool repairs will commence on February 9, 2013, with the actual repair
expected to take approximately 4 weeks.
The lap pool has numerous areas of the pool surface where the protective plaster is cracked and have
worsened over time. These areas are expected to continue to deteriorate if not repaired, causing
potential loss of water, water intrusion to the pool concrete base and rebar. The scope of work
includes a pebble finish with a 10 -year warranty, re -tile pool beam on top, inside and outside,
re -tile swim lanes, adding swim lane "T "'s for the lap swimmers, removing and relocating/ recess lights
and repairing of various cracks on the corners of the pool.
Signage has been posted at all our pool facilities and our patrons have been informed. To
accommodate our pool patrons, we have modified the pool hours at our other 2 pools, (Normandy and
Scott Rakow Youth Center) to open at 6am instead of 6:30am, and to remain open 7 days a week
during the construction period. Normandy and Scott Rakow pools will remain open until 8:30 pm.
Shoul you have additional questions, please contact Kevin Smith at (305) 673 -7730.
