SUBJECT: Cleanup of Monument Island in Conjunction with Baynanza
The purpose of this LTC is to inform you that the City of Miami Beach, Community
Resource and Outreach Team, in conjunction with Miami Dade County, Department of
Environmental Resources (DERM) and the Environmental Coalition of Miami Beach
( ECOMB) is organizing an environmental event for Monument Island. This event is
scheduled for Saturday, April 20, 2013, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Baynanza is an annual County wide effort with events scheduled simultaneously
throughout Miami Dade County for April 20, 2013. These events promote environmental
awareness and the importance of protecting our most treasured natural resources, water
and land. This is part of the City's commitment to preserve and maintain our parks and
open spaces and provide volunteer opportunities for the community.
Volunteers will meet in Maurice Gibb Park at 8:30 a.m. ECOMB is coordinating the
transportation to Monument Island with volunteer boat owners. The volunteers will focus
primarily on the removal and proper disposal of litter. It is anticipated that over 50
volunteers from Miami Dade County will participate in this event. The Outreach Team is
coordinating with Parks and Recreation Greenspace Division, Public Works Sanitation
Division, Police, and Parking Departments to provide the necessary materials and
services for this project. Volunteers may register for this event at ecomb ecomb.org .
