A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, URGING THE GOVERNOR AND
LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA TO ENHANCE THE
FLORIDA FILM & ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY FINANCIAL
INCENTIVE PROGRAM WITH ADDITIONAL TAX CREDITS.
WHEREAS, the Florida film and entertainment industries have long been coveted around the
world and The City of Miami Beach has been fortunate enough to host, cultivate and support this
industry for the past six decades, going back to Frank Sinatra, Jackie Gleason and Miami Vice;
WHEREAS, the enormous success of the current Florida Film & Entertainment Industry
Financial Incentive Program has lead to Miami Beach having a record year in 2012 in terms of film
permits issued (1022), hotel room nights registered (28,900) and dollars spent on permitted
productions ($110 Million) in Miami Beach alone, including film and television projects "Pain and
Gain," "Iron Man 3," "Burn Notice," "Magic City," and many reality and telenovela productions;
WHEREAS, these projects, and those before them, have showcased Miami Beach to the
world and continue to do so in perpetuity, enhancing Miami Beach's brand worldwide and serving as a
diversifier and engine of tourism, the City's primary economy;
WHEREAS, the current tax credits within the Florida Film & Entertainment Industry Financial
Incentive Program haven been exhausted and/or are committed to productions here and throughout
the State of Florida, with many more film and television productions desiring to produce here, but in
need of continued and reliable incentive funding to offset locating or relocating competing states,
including Georgia and Louisiana as well as New York and Puerto Rico;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA THAT the Governor and the Legislature of the State of
Florida are urged to add additional and sufficient tax credits to the Florida Film & Entertainment .
Industry Financial Incentive Program, retaining and enhancing our position as a key entertainment
industry production center.
