No. 169 -2013 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and M mbers f the City Commission °
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manage
DATE: May 7, 2013
SUBJECT: FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (FDOT) STATE ROAD (SR)
A1A/COLLINS AVENUE FROM 5 T " STREET TO LINCOLN ROAD ROADWAY
CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide an update on the FDOT SR A1A/Collins
Avenue from 5 th Street to Lincoln Road Roadway Construction Project. The scope of work for
this project consists of milling and resurfacing, new sidewalk and curb and gutter, pavement
markings, signage, signalization work, new lighting, landscape, and other aesthetic
improvements to enhance this corridor. The scheduled start date for the project is June 3, 2013,
however, utility adjustments may commence prior to this date. This project will cost an
estimated $6.3 million and is scheduled to be completed in summer of 2014. FDOT will be
hosting a public meeting at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at the Miami Beach Police
Department (1100 Washington Avenue) to discuss details about the project and respond to
questions from the community.
It is not planned to detour traffic off of Collins Avenue. As part of the traffic control plan, FDOT
expects to shift traffic throughout the project to accommodate a travel lane in each direction. In
order to implement the lane shifts, on- street parking will be temporarily eliminated during various
phases of the project.
In an effort to ensure successful coordination between the Collins Avenue Roadway
Construction Project and the Alton Road Roadway Reconstruction Project, FDOT has
designated the same project administration team to manage both projects. The project will have
a 24 -hour designated public information officer to ensure that community concerns are resolved
in a timely and effective manner and that the community is aware of any upcoming construction
activities. All lane closure notifications related to this project will be properly disseminated by the
project information officer. FDOT has placed information about lane closures and other project
details on its website (www.fdotmiamidade.com). The attached fact sheet will also be distributed
by the project team throughout the project area.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
