SUBJECT: Miami Beach Parks & Recreation Ce brates a Successful Athletic Season!
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of the recent victories our Parks &
Recreation teams have achieved during this athletic season.
U13 Travel Soccer Team — On May 19, 2013, the City of Miami Beach U13 Travel Soccer team
was crowned champions of the 2013 Nike Cup in Sanford, Florida. Miami Beach defeated
Jacksonville FC 2 -1 in the final match to bring home the championship trophy. The Miami Beach
U 13 team, advanced to the tournament final by finishing first in the group stage with a 6 -0 victory
over Creeks Clash, a 2 -2 tie with Maitland Shock, and a 2 -0 victory over Jacksonville. The City of
Miami Beach is extremely proud of its U13 soccer team for their Championship victory!
Special Olympics State Games — On May 17th -18th, 2013, the Miami Beach Special
Populations athletes participated in the Special Olympics State Games held in Orlando, Florida.
Jose Trevino, Brian Crapp and William Lockett brought back gold medals each with scores of
180 in the soccer skills division. In addition, Clarice Geller brought the bronze medal with a score
of 156 in the tennis skills division. The City of Miami Beach congratulates our athletes for a job
well done!
X -treme Cheerleaders — On May 10 -12, 2013, the Level 3 X -treme Cheerleaders travelled to
Hershey, Pennsylvania to compete in the 2013 Cheerpower, Battle of the States Cheerleading
Competition. The team competed in the Small Level 3 Allstar Division where they place 3` out of
6 teams. Although X -Treme Cheerleaders are a recreation cheerleading team, the team worked
very hard to compete with the best in all -star divisions and be able to compete at a Regional and
National level for competitive cheerleading. We are very proud of their accomplishment!
Unique Starz — On May 4, 2013, the Miami Beach's Hip Hop Team "Unique Starz" participated
in the Sharp's International Dance Competition held in Buena Park, California. The team stunned
the crowd with their spectacular dance routine placing them as Champions of the All Star Senior
Dance Division. The Unique Starz year -round success gave them the opportunity to participate
in this invitational competition because of their undefeated season against other hip -hop dance
teams across the nation. This is a fantastic achievement for the team and we are very proud of
our girls for a year of success!
