A Resolution Voicing Support For North Miami Beach And Miami -Dade County Residents Who Oppose Recent Rezoning And Planned Developments Adjacent To Beautiful And Historic Greynolds Park, And The Resulting Immediate Threat Of Ten To Fifteen Story Buildings Impacting Single Family Residences Near The Park; And The Blocking Of Sunlight And Other Negative Environmental Impacts Upon The Park Environment, Users Of The Park And Nearby Residents; Providing For An Effective Date. JLM /REG Attachment co �n N r; i 1 2 3 RESOLUTION NO. 2013-39 .4 5 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND 6 COMMISSION OF THE VILLAGE OF BISCAYNE 7 PARK, FLORIDA, VOICING SUPPORT FOR 8 NORTH MIAMI BEACH AND NIIAMI -DADE 9 COUNTY RESIDENTS WHO OPPOSE RECENT 10 REZONING AND PLANNED DEVELOPMENTS . 11 ADJACENT TO BEAUTIFUL AND HISTORIC 12 GREYNOLDS PARK, AND THE RESULTING 13 IMMEDIATE THREAT OF TEN TO FIFTEEN 14 STORY BUILDINGS IMPACTING SINGLE 15 FAMILY RESIDENCES NEAR THE PARK; AND 16 THE BLOCKING OF SUNLIGHT AND OTHER 17 NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS UPON 18 THE PARK ENVIRONMENT, USERS OF THE 19 PARK AND NEARBY RESIDENTS; PROVIDING 20 FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE 21 22 WHEREAS, Biscayne Park is a single family home community defined by the quality 23 of its park and parkways, and in the recent past has faced similar rezoning by North Miami and 24 future high density high rises and the blocking of sunlight and other negative environmental 25 impacts such as noise and traffic adjacent to its single - family home environment and park 26 system; and 27 28 WHEREAS, Biscayne Park has, in the past, witnessed similar rezoning and the 29 influence of real estate and developer interests in the downtown area of North Miami; and seen 30 little consideration for planning and the clear negative environmental, economic and traffic 31 impacts on Biscayne Park and its park system. and family homes; and '32 33 34 WHEREAS, the Mayor and Commission of the Village of Biscayne Park desire to 35 voice their solidarity with the North Miami Beach residents requesting that Miami -Dade 36 Commissioner Sally Heyman show support for the defense of this County Park against 37 developers who have influenced the North Miami Beach City Council. 38 39 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE 40 VILLAGE OF BISCAYNE PARK, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS: 41 42 Section 1. The. above recitals are true, correct, and incorporated herein by this 43 reference. 44 45 Section 2. The, Village Commission hereby voices its support for the residents of 46 North Miami Beach and- others who oppose such development and equally requests that 47 Miami -Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman, whose district includes Greynold's Park 48 and adjacent residents, take immediate action to question the zoning change, and to defend this Resolution No. 2013 -39 Page 1 of 2 1 public park established in 1935 at meetings of the Miarni -Dade Commission and express such 2 concerns to the North Miami Beach City Council. 3 4 Section 3. That the Village Clerk, upon passing of this Resolution, will 5 immediately forward a certified copy to all Miami -Dade County Commissioners, including the 6 Offices of Miami -Dade County Commissioner Sally Heyman, the Mayor and Council of the 7 City of North Miami Beach, all municipalities in Miami -Dade County, and all citizen and 8 environment groups opposing such development. 9 1'0 11 Section 4.
