A RESOLU'T'ION OF THE TOWN COMMISSION
OF THE TOWN OF SURh'S1DE, FLORIDA (TOWN)
AFFIRMING SUPPORT FOR THE
INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTIC CABLE FOR
PUBLIC USE IN THE FLORIDA EAST COAST
RAIL CORRIDOR; URGING ALL
MUNICIPALITIES OF MIAMI -DADE COUNTY TO
SUPPORT THE INSTALLATION OF FIBER OPTIC
CABLE FOR PUBLIC USE IN THE FLORIDA
EAST COAST RAIL CORRIDOR; PROVIDING
FOR APPROVAL AND AUTHORIZATION;
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the Treasure Coast Regional PIanning Council representing the local
governments of Indian Diver, Martin, Palm Beach, and St. Lucie Counties unanimously passed
on July 19, 2013 Resolution No. 13 -01 to support the installation of fiber optic cable for public
use 111 the Florida East Coast rail corridor; and
WHEREAS, Fiber optic technology provides a high speed broadband communication
system that is a catalyst to enhance job creation, economic development, healthcare, and
education; and
WHEREAS, Southeast Florida does not have Fiber optic infrastructure available for
public use throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, the All Aboard Florida project is a proposal by Florida Fast Coast
Industries to introduce express passenger rail service between Miami and Orlando follows the
Florida Vast Coast rail corridor; and
WHEREAS, the Florida Last Coast rail corridor is an ideal location for the co- location
of Fiber optic infrastructure because it links most of the urban areas 111 Southeast Florida; and
WHEREAS, the'Town of Surfside urges other Municipalities of Miami -Dade County to
support the installation of fiber optic cable for public use in the Florida East Coast rail corridor.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE TOWN COMMISSION OF
THE TOWN OF SURFSIDE, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Recitals Adopted. That each of the above stated recitals are hereby adopted,
confirmed, and incorporated herein.
Section 2. Approval and Authorization. The Town own Commission approves and
authorizes the Town Manager and /or his designee to take all actions necessary to implement this
Resolution.
Section 3. Direction to the Town Cleric. The Town Clerk is hereby directed to transmit a
copy of this Resolution to the Miami -Dade County Municipal Clerks and the T reasure Coast
Regional Planning Council.
Section 4. Effective Date This Resolution shall become effective immediately Upon its
adoption.
