Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), the Florida Department of Transportation, Miami-
- .. Dade Transit, City of Miami Beach, City of Miami, and the Miami Downtown Development
--- Authority. - On September 3, 2013, a consultant selection committee comprised of a
representative from each participating agency selected Gannet Fleming as the top- ranked
proposer among five general planning consultant firms that submitted technical proposals for
the study. As such, the MPO has awarded the contract to conduct the Beach Corridor Transit
Connection Study to Gannett Fleming. The study is expected to take nine (9) to twelve (12)
months to complete and cost approximately $325,000.
As part of the study process, the MPO intends to comprise a Policy Executive Committee (PEC)
and a Technical Steering Committee (TSC). The two committees will meet several times
throughout the study process and are intended to guide the study process through critical
milestones and serve as a tool for the coordination of technical and policy matters and
decisions.
The Beach Corridor Transit Connection Study commenced in September 2013 and the study
team i's in the process of collecting data, organizing committee structures, sending out
invitation letters, and securing meeting dates and locations for the PEC and TSC. The MPO is
working towards holding the first PEC and TSC meetings this month. The meeting locations will
be - rotated through the different agencies with Miami Beach potentially hosting the second
meeting.
On October 2, 2013, the study team will be present at the City of Miami Beach Transportation
and Parking Committee (TPC) to present the scope of the study, provide current status and
obtain input from the TPC. The study proposal by Gannett Fleming outlines that up to 24
meetings will be held, including four (4) meetings of the TSC, four meetings (4) of the PEC,
eight (8) meetings with MPO, cities, and other bodies (including the City's TPC), and eight (8)
meetings with community stakeholders and group presentations (chambers of commerce,
HOAs, etc.). In addition, the Administration has requested to attend all progress meetings and
that the MPO provide regular updates on the overall progress of the study on a monthly basis.
The Administration will continue to provide monthly updates on this study to the City
