SUBJECT: FDOT RECONSTRUCTION OF LTON ROAD MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC PLAN
UPDATE
The purpose of the LTC is to provide information on the Florida Department of Transportation
(FDOT) Alton Road Construction Project Phase 6A. Phase 6A will include the installation of new
drainage, the construction of sidewalk, driveways, pedestrian ramps, lighting, signals, and the
- . re- constructing the section of roadway from 8 Street to 16 Street on the east side and from
16 Street to 17 Street on the west side. These activities will require full closure of those
sections of roadway.
FDOT will provide information regarding upcoming travel times to assist drivers heading north
on Alton Road and using the detour between 17 Street and Michigan Avenue. An electronic
message sign, located on the east side of Alton Road at 13 Street, will be updated throughout
each day to provide the estimated time it will take to travel through the detour route. Regular
hours of operation are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nighttime work may be conducted for certain
drainage activities. In the period of time from October 23 through October 25, 2013 there will be
night time construction activity along 5th Street and Alton Road. Restoration of the concrete
island on the southwest corner of 5 Street and Alton Road. Restriping of the eastbound travel
lanes from west of Alton Road to Lennox Avenue. One eastbound lane on 5 Street will be
closed during nighttime hours. The exclusive right -turn lane onto southbound Alton Road will be
closed each night during the work.
In order- to provide more southbound capacity, beginning the week of October 28, 2013, the
contractor will restripe West Avenue between 6 Street and 17 Street to serve as the
alternative southbound corridor. This work will occur at night. Once the restriping is completed ,
there will be two southbound lanes and one northbound lane available on West Avenue. The
center turn lane will be temporarily removed to accommodate the additional southbound lane.
On- street parking will be maintained. West Avenue will be in this lane configuration for the rest
of the Alton Road project. At the end of the project, the contractor will repave and restripe the
roadway to its original condition. Pedestrian and business access will be maintained at all times.
Beginning the week of November 4, 2013 Alton Road will accommodate northbound traffic from
8 Street to 17 Street. Southbound traffic will be diverted to West Avenue. Construction activity
will include setting up the new work zone, excavating the roadway, installing new drainage,
sidewalks, driveways, pedestrian ramps, lighting, signals and rebuilding this section of roadway.

Two northbound lanes will be open on Alton Road in this area during this time. Permanent
closures will be established along the east side of Alton Road from 8th Street to 16th Street and
the west side between 16th Street and 17th Street. Side street access will be restricted at times
throughout the corridor. On- street parking will be temporarily eliminated throughout the corridor.
Available on- street parking will remain on the west side of the street between 8th Street and
10th Street and on the East side of the street from Lincoln Road to 17 Street. This work is
anticipated to last approximately five (5) months. Pedestrian and business access will be
maintained at all times. The construction team will coordinate the closure of driveways. At least
one entrance will be maintained at all times.
A separate push- button drainage project will begin on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Alton
Road and 5 Street. Construction activity will include installing several underground drainage
structures, repaving and restriping a section of the intersection particularly, the dedicated right
turn lane from eastbound 5th Street to southbound Alton Road. The channelized right turn will
be closed continuously from November 6 to November 24. Eastbound traffic will turn south onto
Alton Road east of the raised island.
Ongoing daytime Alton Road construction activities through November, 2013 from 6 Street to 12
Street will involve excavating the roadway, installing and testing the new water main along the
west side of Alton Road. Currently, southbound travel lanes on Alton Road from 12 Street to 6
Street have been shifted and the left turn lanes at 8th Street and 11th Street. An additional,
southbound lane may be closed as needed during daytime hours to perform this work. On- street
parking within this area will be temporarily eliminated along both sides of Alton Road to allow
room for the work to be performed and two travel lanes be maintained in each direction.
