LTC 406-2013 Discount to Elder Buildings for Bulk Cable Television Service MIAMI BEACH
OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 41,96-,203 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and Menbers of th City Commission
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager
DATE: November 7, 2013
SUBJECT: Discount to Elder Buildings for ulk Cable Television Service
The purpose of this Letter To Commission is to follow -up on a request made at the
September Budget Advisory Committee meeting regarding efforts to enable elder
housing buildings to access discounted cable television services.
While there are several elder buildings currently receiving discounted rates for bulk cable
services from Atlantic Broadband (our City's cable provider) including Rebecca Towers,
other buildings have been approached by the company but have declined the discount.
The most significant reason for declining the discount is that there must be consensus
by all users (units) in order to ensure the reduced rate. For elder households typically
living on low, fixed incomes, cable television services are considered a luxury expense
that.is unaffordable regardless of the offered discounts.
Atlantic Broadband will continue to offer the bulk discount and encourages any
interested buildings to contact Maia Mediavilla, Director of Marketing for Atlantic
Broadband, Florida Region, at 305 - 993 -0018.
