Letter from United Nations WOMEN WUN : 1 Z013 DEC P 2 3 WOMENIN United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women CITY C LE UFO: ICE Ref. code 4611 13 December 2013 Dear Mr. Granado, On behalf of the Secretary-General, I thank you for your letter of 22 October. Here at the United Nations, we are highly pleased to learn about the resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach supporting safe spaces for women and girls, endorsing the UNITE to End Violence against Women Campaign and calling on other cities to equally pledge their support. The City's initiative constitutes an important step towards ending violence against women and girls. As you know, awareness-raising measures on sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence in public spaces are more sustainable and effective if partners from different sectors are involved. We thus especially appreciate the City's inclusive approach in implementing the Resolution in close collaboration with other public institutions and civil society representatives. It would be our pleasure, including that of our colleagues from the UNiTE Campaign and the UN Women Global Safe Cities Team, to continue to hear about the activities of the City of Miami Beach to improve the situation of women and girls in your city. Yours sincerely, Phumzile §mbo-Ngacuka Under-Secretary-General, and Executive Director Mr. Rafael E.
