SUBJECT: FDOT A1A/Collins Avenue/Indian reek Drive from 42 St to 44 St and along 43 St
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)
drainage and roadway construction project along SR A1A/Collins Avenue/Indian Creek Drive from 42 Street
to 44 Street and along 43 Street. This project will cost an estimated $2.3 million. The work began Monday,
May 5, 2014 and will take roughly eight months to complete, and includes the following:
• Rebuilding curb and gutter, sidewalks, driveways and pedestrian ramps at various locations
• Improving the existing drainage system, including the installation of a new pump station at the
intersection of Indian Creek Drive and 43 Street
• Repaving and restriping the roadway
• Installing new signage and pavement markings
• Relocating landscaping
Initial Construction Activity
• Installing barrier wall and establishing the work zone on 43 Street between Indian Creek Drive and
Collins Avenue
• Installing barrier wall and establishing the work zone on Collins Avenue at 43 Street
Lane Closures/Detours
• One lane on Collins Avenue at 43 Street will be continuously closed behind barrier wall; an additional
lane may be closed daily between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
43 Street will be converted into a one-way eastbound only street
The City's high impact period schedule has been provided to the FDOT Project Public Information Officer
and the Construction Manager. There have also been meetings with FDOT and representatives from the
City's Capital Improvements Projects Office, Public Works, and Police Department to coordinate the work in
the area. No work will be performed during Memorial Day Weekend; however, 43 St between Indian Creek
Drive and Collins Avenue will be one-way eastbound.
