This Letter to the Mayo r and C ty s o rovide information on the Miami Beach

Police Department's nominees for the 2014 Law Enforcement Officer Foundation's Awards and
announce the selection of Miami Beach Police Department Officer Christina O'Neal's as the
2014 Law Enforcement Officer Foundation's Award Winner in the Safety Category.
The Miami Beach Police Department award finalists were:
• Officer Christina O'Neal — Safety Category (Award Winner)
Successfully resuscitated a strong arm robbery victim using CPR.
• Officer Tino Serrano— Safety Category
Assisted a FHP Trooper with providing CPR to a crash victim.
• Victim Advocate Aifa Alvarez— Investigative Services Category
Helping a family cope with the death of their 4 month old infant.
• Public Safety Specialist Brittany Amuso—Specialized Services Category
Extraordinary efforts on a variety of administrative projects in Internal Affairs
• Detective Jenny Velazquez— Investigative Services Category
Rescuing children being victimized by sexual predators and child pornography.
(Winner of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association Officer of the Year Award)
The MBPD also had two Miami-Dade County Association of Chiefs of Police Officer of the Month
winners during 2014. These two individuals were automatically in the running for the Officer of
the Year Award:
• Officer Garfield Taylor—catching an armed robber that attacked a tourist.
• Sergeant James Nolan — rescued a victim of human trafficking.
