Morales, C..va�=ry,au • DATE: April 22, 2015 BEACH CONVENTION CENTER ARTISTS ORIENTATION MEETING SUBJECT: MIAM I BE G The City hired Fentress Architects as its Design Criteria Professional ("DCP"), to create a Design Criteria Package documenting the City's intent of the renovation and expansion of the Miami Beach Convention Center. The DCP's team also includes local architect Arquitectonica and landscape architect West 8. In collaboration with the City and the Design Team, Art in Public Places identified the following four potential opportunities for the integration of public art: • 1. Monumental Exterior work for Convention Center Park Estimated project budget$1.3M 2. West Concourse—North and South Junior Ballrooms Walls Estimated Project Budget: $1 million 3. Northeast Grand Ballroom Lobby Wall and Floor Estimated Project Budget: $1.3 million 4. VIP Ballroom Exterior Wall and Entry Estimated Project Budget$650,000 On December 2, 2014, the City of Miami Beach Art in Public Places (AiPP), in collaboration with Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places, issued a Call to Artists for the City of Miami Beach Convention Center (MBCC) Renovation and Expansion Project, requesting qualifications from professional artists or artist teams to create monumental works of public art for the MBCC. Per Ordinance No. 2004-3448, the AiPP budget is estimated at $6.25M, subject to adjustment, once the final hard cost of the project is determined. The deadline for Artist Applications was January 16, 2015. On December 18, 2014, the Mayor and City Commission approved the AiPP Committee recommendation that the City Commission establish a Professional Advisory Committee (PAC), pursuant to Section 82-612(c) of the City Code, to assist with the selection of works of art or artists for the MBCC Project. The AiPP Committee further recommended that the PAC should include three (3) voting AiPP Members: Cathy Byrd, Susan Caraballo, and Megan Riley. On January 30, 2015, the PAC met and this call to artists received five hundred and twenty four (524) applications. After several rounds of review and discussion among Art in Public Places Advisory Committee members, City of Miami Beach representatives, and Miami-Dade APP representatives, twenty-six (26) artists were recommended by the PAC. The list of artists attending is attached (Exhibit B). Following the site orientation meeting the Bass Museum, 2100 Collins Avenue, is hosting a reception from 5:30—6:30 pm (Exhibit C).
