2015-28973 Reso RESOLUTION NO. 2015-28973 A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO CO-SPONSOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT HELD AT FLAMINGO PARK ON MAY 2, 2015 FROM 10:00 A.M. TO 10:00 P.M. WHEREAS, in May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight cancer, the nation's biggest health concern; and WHEREAS, a year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event and the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising nearly $5 billion to fight cancer; and WHEREAS, the American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world's largest and most impactful fundraising event to end cancer, uniting communities across the globe to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remembering loved ones lost, and taking action to finish the fight once and for all; and WHEREAS, the Administration recommends that the City Commission approve co- sponsoring the event being held at Flamingo Park on May 2, 2015. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby approve and authorize the City to co-sponsor the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life Event held at Flamingo Park on May 2, 2015 from 10:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M.
