Scope of Services for City of Miami Beach
October 1, 2015-September 30, 2016
About Arts for Learning:
As Miami-Dade County's leading organization solely dedicated to advancing teaching and learning
through the arts, Arts for Learning (A4L) works diligently to ensure that the arts are central to the life of
every child. By connecting professional visual and performing artists to children in schools, preschools,
and after-school and summer programs, children have the opportunity to experience and understand an
art form, create a work of art, and connect that art to other areas of learning. A4L's comprehensive
services include arts-integrated instruction, student studio programs, community art classes, internships
in the arts, mentoring, and teacher and artist professional development. A4L is a national affiliate of the
Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning and the Young Audiences Arts for Learning network.
Proposed Scope of Work:
Arts for Learning respectfully requests $105,000 to provide in-depth visual and performing arts programs
at City of Miami Beach schools, preschools, and parks to serve 1,075 of children and youth.
After-School Programming
Arts for Learning will provide 30 after-school courses across five Miami Beach locations including
Biscayne Elementary School, Flamingo Park, North Beach Elementary, Scott Rakow Youth Center and
South Pointe Elementary School. Throughout the school year at each after-school location, professional
teaching artists will conduct semester-long residencies. These residencies or"courses" are defined as a
1-hour session per week for a unique group of up to 25 students over a period of 12-16 weeks within the
fall or spring semester.Through the after-school programming,A4L will serve 330 students.

Preschool Programming Serving Children ages 3-5 years old
Arts for Learning's preschool offering consists of visual and performing arts residencies conducted by
master teaching artists who embed coaching, modeling and in-class teacher professional development
into a 16-session residency structure. The efficiency of this approach is that it concurrently combines in-
depth training for early childhood teachers with high quality arts-based learning activities for students. The
residency and coaching structure is as follows:
• Planning Session(Session 1):The teacher and the artist identify residency goals/objectives.
• Observation Session (Session 2): The artist becomes acquainted with students and the
classroom.
• Classroom Sessions Led by the Teaching Artist (Sessions 3-11): Teaching artist leads eight 45-
minute sessions. The classroom teacher participates in the sessions and in 15-minute post-
session debriefings.
• Planning Meetings (Sessions 12 and 14): The teaching artist and classroom teacher develop
lessons together. For these lessons, the teacher will take the lead in the delivery of arts-based
strategies.
• Sessions Led by the Classroom Teacher(Sessions 13 and 15): Classroom teacher leads two 45-
minute sessions that are followed by a 15-minute debrief discussion with the artist.
• Closing Session (Session 16): During this session, the teaching artist has the opportunity to end
the residency and to say "goodbye" to the students and determine follow up needs with the
teacher.

Scope of Services for City of Miami Beach
October 1, 2015-September 30, 2016
The first year a classroom participates, it receives two back-to-back full 16-session residencies. The
second year a classroom participates it receives one shorter residency. These shorter, 8-session
residencies are designed to provide the new students in a teacher's class with high level arts
experiences. However, as the teacher has already received the professional development the previous
year, those coaching sessions that were embedded in the model are no longer needed and any coaching
or support in year two occurs on an informal basis.
A4L will serve 6 classrooms with the full first year of the program and 8 classrooms will receive the
shorter residencies as they have already received their first year of programming.
Baby ArtsPlay!TM and Visual Arts Residencies Serving Children ages 3-36 months
Arts for Learning's Baby ArtsPlay!TM Residency program provides children ages three months to three
years old, and the early childhood educators who care for them, with holistic early childhood music,
drama, movement,and/or visual arts experiences aimed at supporting the children's cognitive, social,
emotional, and physical development. The 17-session program embeds professional development and
coaching support for the preschool teachers into the residency just like A4L's 3-5 year old program.
• Observation Session (Session 1 ):The artist becomes acquainted with the children and the
classroom.
• Planning Session(Session 2):The teacher and the artist identify residency goals/objectives.
• Classroom Sessions Led by the Teaching Artist(Sessions 3-6):Teaching artist leads four 20-
minute sessions. The teacher participates in the sessions and in 15-minute post-session
debriefings.
• Planning Meeting(Sessions 7):The teaching artist and teacher develop lessons together.
• Sessions Led by the Teaching Artist and Teacher(Sessions 8-11):Teaching artist and teacher
co-lead four 20-minute sessions.The teacher also participates in 15-minute post-session
debriefings.
• Planning Meeting (Sessions 12):The teaching artist and teacher develop lessons together.
• Sessions Led by the Teaching Artist and Teacher(Sessions 13-16):Teaching artist and teacher
co-lead four 20-minute sessions.The teacher also participates in 15-minute post-session
debriefings.
• Closing Session (Session 17): During this session, the teaching artist has the opportunity to end
the residency and to say"goodbye"to the students and determine follow up needs with the
teacher.
Just like the 3-5 year old program, the first year a classroom participates, it receives two back-to-back full
17-session residencies. The second year a classroom participates, it receives one shorter residency.
The Baby ArtsPlay!TM Residency program will serve105 children across 7 preschool classrooms. All of the
classrooms this year are in their second year of programming.
Baby ArtsPlay!TM Family Program
Arts for Learning will provide families at local Miami Beach libraries programming that serves children
ages three months to three years old and their parents/caregivers.The program offers families a series of
ten 45-minute classes that incorporate music, drama and movement activities to support infants and
