SUBJECT: INDIAN CREEK DRIVE/ STATE ROAD (SR) A1A, 26 STREET TO 41
STREET - FLOODING MITIGATION PRICO,ECT
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you that the City of Miami Beach in
partnership with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will begin a flooding
mitigation project along Indian Creek Drive/SR A1A Drive from 26 Street to 41 Street. The City
will be entering into an agreement with a contractor to design and build the project.
The infrastructure improvements will include a new storm water drainage system, pump station
and seawall. The existing roadway, curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be elevated to meet new
flood elevation requirements. Driveways, light poles, signals, signage and pavement markings
will be replaced to match new roadway alignment and configuration.
Pre-construction work is expected to begin within the next few weeks. Construction is
anticipated to start in early summer, 2016. The project will be implemented in phases to
minimize impact. Access to properties will be maintained at all times. On-street parking will be
temporarily eliminated during the duration of the project. When necessary, police will be hired
by the contractor to assist in guiding vehicles through the work zone. Maintenance of traffic
bulletins will be updated as changes occur and weekly advisories will be distributed. The
project is anticipated to last one year and will cost approximately $25 million.
A Public Meeting will be held at the Miami Beach Golf Club, 2301 Alton Road, April 12, 2016,
6:00 p.m. to inform the community of the project and to seek comments.
A Facts Sheet and Meeting Notice are attached.
