Key Intended Outcome Supported: Ensure Comprehensive Mobility Addressing All Modes Throughout The City Supporting Data (Surveys, Environmental Scan, etc: N/A Item Summary/Recommendation: Pursuant to Article V, Chapter 39, of the City of Miami Beach Code, the City of Miami Beach Commission approved the co-naming of 21st Street as"Jose Marti Street"in July 1994. The signs for the City approved co-name were installed. On November 19, 2014, the Mayor and City Commission adopted Resolution No. 2014-28837, which approved, by 5/7th vote, and following a public hearing, the co-naming of 21st Street between Washington Avenue and Collins Avenue as "Collins Park South" and the co-naming of 22nd Street between Washington Court and Collins Avenue as "Collins Park North". This co- naming was subsequently adopted by the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners via Resolution No. R-163-15. In early 2016, Miami-Dade County replaced the street name signs at the intersection of 21st Street and Collins Avenue to reflect the"Collins Park South"co-designation; however, the new signs omit the "Jose Marti Street" co-designation. Following a site review, the City contacted the County requesting that the"Jose Marti Street"co-name be reinstalled, given that the City never requested that the co-name be removed. Upon further communication and investigation with the County, County Administration advised that no record exists of a Board of County Commissioners adoption of the"Jose Marti Street"co-name and advised that if the City chose to retain that co-name, a City Commission resolution would need to be approved requesting that the County install new street name signs on 21st Street between Washington Avenue and Collins Avenue, with the following three designations "21st Street," "Jose Marti Street," and "Collins Park South." RECOMMENDATION The City Manager recommends that the Mayor and City Commission of the City of Miami Beach approve a resolution requesting that Miami-Dade County designate, pursuant to City of Miami Beach Resolution No. 94-21216, 21st Street between Washington Avenue and Collins Avenue as "Jose Marti Street," in addition to the "Collins Park South" designation, and request that Miami- Dade County install new street name signs reflecting both co-designations of 21st Street.
