A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY CLERK TO
EXECUTE A RENEWED AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH AND
THE TOWN OF MEDLEY, FOR THE PURPOSE OF THE MIAMI BEACH POLICE
DEPARTMENT CONDUCTING FIREARMS TRAINING AT THE MEDLEY POLICE
OUTDOOR FIREARMS TRAINING CENTER LOCATED AT 9700 NW 97 AVENUE,
MEDLEY, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department's firearms training involves utilizing
high-powered rifles and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) training and, as a result, cannot
be held at the Miami Beach Police Department's Indoor Firearms Range due to its physical
limitations and size; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Beach Police Department has, for several years, utilized the City
of Medley Police Outdoor Firearms Training Center, designed to accommodate specialized
weaponry and training; and
WHEREAS, the Town of Medley, on behalf of the Medley Police Firearms Training
Center, has requested a renewed Agreement be entered into with the City of Miami Beach, on
behalf of the Miami Beach Police Department, in order to allow and authorize the continued use
of their firearms range by the City of Miami Beach Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the Agreement shall specify the terms and use of the premises, safety
regulations compliance, these being essentially unchanged from the previous agreement, and a
reasonable fee schedule, which is agreeable to the Miami Beach Police Department; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Police Department desires to obtain the use of
facilities operated and maintained by the Town of Medley for the purpose of conducting firearms
and other related training for its agents, employees or representatives, and the Town of Medley
has the appropriate facilities for such, known as the Medley Police Firearms Training Center,
located at 9700 N.W. 97th Avenue, Medley, Florida 33040.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, hereby authorize the City
Manager and City Clerk to execute a renewed Agreement between the City of Miami Beach and
the Town of Medley, for the purpose of conducting firearms training by the Miami Beach Police
Department at the Town of Medley Police Firearms Training Center located at 9700 N.W. 97
Avenue, Medley, Florida.

Item Summary/Recommendation:
The Miami Beach Police Department's(MBPD's) Indoor Firearms Range is of limited size and is
restricted in terms of the type of weapons that can be used, and the content of specialized
training courses that can be held at the location. As a result of these restrictions, in 2013 the
MBPD entered into an Agreement with the Town Of Medley, Florida, to use the Medley Police
Outdoor Firearms Training Center. This is a large facility with separate firearms ranges,
accommodating as many as 20 handgun shooter positions, and is designed for utilizing high-
powered rifles and specialized firearms training.
The Town of Medley, on behalf of the Medley Police Firearms Training Center, has requested a
renewed Agreement with the City of Miami Beach, on behalf of the MBPD, in order to allow and
authorize the continued use of the Firearms Range by the MBPD. The essential terms and
conditions remain unchanged.
It is recommended•that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution

CONCLUSION
It is recommended that the Mayor and City Commission adopt this Resolution and authorize
the execution of the Agreement that will allow the MBPD to conduct necessary firearms
training.
