SUBJECT: 5 STREET CLOSURE — APRIL 2* -27, 2016
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to inform you of the work to be undertaken tonight by
David Mancini and Sons, Inc. (DMSI) for the new 54-inch sanitary sewer pipeline on Euclid Avenue
and Washington Avenue from Commerce Street to 11 Street. The purpose of the project is to
provide a redundant system for conveying sewage through the City to the County wastewater
treatment plant in Virginia Key.
The project includes a trenchless underground horizontal drilling operation to install sewer pipe
from Washington Avenue and 1 Street to Euclid Avenue at 11 Street continues. The pipe pulling
operation begins tonight at 9 p.m. and is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. The intersection of 5
Street and Euclid Avenue will be closed during this time. Four Miami Beach Police Officers have
been hired to assist with traffic. VMS signs have been placed around the project work zone to
direct traffic around the area. This same maintenance of traffic (MOT) proved effective during the
closures last week. The plan is for the contractor to pull the pipe on sides of the street from the
north side of 5 Street down to 3 Street. There will be approximately 700 feet of 54-inch pipe
crossing 5 Street. As soon as the 700 feet of pipe is pulled into the construction zone south of 5
Street the intersection will be reopened. All cross streets above 5 Street will be opened as soon as
the pipe clears each intersection.
Street closures remain on Euclid Avenue from 3 Street to 5 Street. The intersection at 5 Street
remains open until 9 p.m. tonight. Closures continue on Euclid Avenue on the north side of 5
Street to 9 Street and from 10 Street to 11 Street. Adjacent property owners have been notified.
